Pruneville.com was created to help entertain and educate seniors. Louie, Dot, and Jake hope that you enjoy the wide variety of humor in this Web site, and that you find the related information contained herein useful to you in your daily life.
- The Inspiration
Kent was inspired to create Pruneville.com during a discussion with one of his friends about the challenges and difficulties that elderly people often face in their golden years. This Web site is meant to serve as a tribute to the courage and humor that the real Louie and Dot, Kent's parents, continue to display in dealing with the trials and tribulations of life as senior citizens.
- The Premise
Louie and Dot are a married couple in their mid-60s who have recently retired from their jobs in the big city and have moved to Pruneville, a quaint retirement community in East Texas, with their pet cockatiel, Jake. Their children, Debra, Kent, and Brenda, are grown and have lives of their own, but they come to visit Louie, Dot, and Jake in Pruneville from time to time.
- The Characters
Although their personalities are quite different, the characters of Louie and Dot are very loosely based on Kent's parents. The character of Jake is based on the personality of Cricket, who has been Kent's pet for the past nine years (although Cricket's a she, not a he... and she's a dog, not a bird--go figure).
Louie's character cracks incredibly corny jokes, is somewhat lazy and harebrained, and often embarrasses Dot and Jake in front of their friends and relatives with his less-than-intelligent comments, questions, and actions.
Dot's character is spry, witty, personable, and is the foundation of the family. Without her loving guidance and unlimited patience, Louie and Jake would be in big trouble.
Jake's character is self-centered, impossibly stubborn, and constantly sarcastic.
- The Writers
Kent, his wife Judy, and their friend Greg write the corny dialogues for the Pruneville.com comic strips, a few of which are based on classic "old folks jokes" and most on original concepts. Don't tell anyone, but Judy reached the age of 50 before Kent did (and Kent's very happy about that). When they're not working on Pruneville.com or their "day jobs," Kent and Judy spend as much time as possible fishing and camping in East Texas and island hopping in the Caribbean.
